On 12-13 November 2024, the AutoMoTIF project team gathered in Bilbao, Spain, for a productive General Assembly. Hosted by Portlab, this event was an opportunity for partners to review the project’s progress, discuss key challenges, and outline the next steps in our journey toward revolutionizing mobility and logistics.

The agenda was packed with insightful presentations and discussions across our Use Cases (UC) and Work Packages (WPs).

On the first day of the General Assembly, we had a series of insightful discussions focused on the progress of the Work Packages (WPs) that form the foundation of the AutoMoTIF project:

  • WP1: Redesigning logistics towards operational automation and multimodality (ICCS) – Addressed strategies for reshaping logistics to improve automation and ensure seamless multimodal operations.
  • WP2: Modelling (MOS) – Presented updates on advanced simulation and modeling tools supporting predictive logistics planning.
  • WP3: Evaluation and impact assessment (UNIMORE) – Explored methodologies to measure the project’s societal and economic impact.
  • WP4: Governance and implementation (EUT) – Discussed frameworks to ensure compliance, scalability, and robust governance of project outcomes.
  • WP5: Impact boosting activities (MAGCIRC) – Focused on initiatives to maximize project visibility and stakeholder engagement.
  • WP6: Project management (ICCS) – Reviewed project coordination, timeline alignment, and delivery milestones.

The day’s discussions set the stage for effective collaboration and highlighted the significant progress across all work streams, ensuring a clear path forward for our project goals.

During the second day of our General Assembly, we focused on progress across multiple Use Cases (UCs):

  • UC1: Automated berthing/unberthing of freight vessels (ICCS) – Discussed advancements in autonomous vessel docking technologies to streamline port operations.
  • UC2: Automated port operations (VICOM) – Reviewed innovations in automation to optimize cargo handling and workflow efficiency within port environments.
  • UC3: Automated Shunting as a Service-oriented Platform (CIRCLE) – Explored the development of automated rail shunting solutions to enhance multimodal freight connectivity and operational reliability.
  • UC4: Automated multimodal terminal operations (DSP) – Analyzed strategies for integrating automation across terminal operations to improve efficiency and scalability.

The event wasn’t all work—participants enjoyed a tour of the Port of Bilbao, gaining valuable insights into real-world logistics operations and how our innovations can contribute to the sector.
