AutoMoTIF at the RTR Conference 2026 in Brussels (10-12 February 2026)
On the 10-12 February 2025, at the RTR Conference 2026 in Brussels, Dr. Angelos Amditis, Research & Development Director at ICCS, represented AutoMoTIF in Session 19: Future-Proof Freight Transport: Autonomous Multimodal Supply Chains, Freight Flow Integration & Low-Energy Operations. The session was moderated by Paola Chiarini (EC DG MOVE) and Giuseppe Luppino (ALICE), and featured a strong message: real deployment depends on interoperability, governance, and collaboration—not just innovation.
The session brought together four Horizon Europe projects — AUTOSUP (Ilias Gkotsis), AutoMoTIF (Angelos Amditis), ADMIRAL (Ville Hinkka), and TRACE (Stathes Hadjiefthymiades) — to explore what truly enables operational uptake of autonomous and low-energy freight solutions.

Interoperability first: Success is not about “more data” but about usable, shared data. Clear definitions, accountability, and standardized formats are essential to avoid new silos and enable seamless automation.

Decision-support in practice: Simulation, digital twins, and decision-support systems are vital tools to test scenarios, reduce investment risk, and support actionable operational decisions. Technology must serve outcomes, not exist for its own sake.

Real barriers remain: Legacy systems, fragmented cross-border procedures, and growing cybersecurity risks continue to slow large-scale deployment.
The closing takeaway was clear: collaboration is not a slogan—it is a prerequisite for interoperability and scalable deployment. When credible information drives better decisions, there is no excuse to delay progress toward emission reduction and a future-ready freight system.
